If you have been off sick and your employer has asked for a self-certification form, you probably want a clear answer fast. That is why this site exists. We explain how self-certification works in the UK, what the SC2 form asks for, and how it links to Statutory Sick Pay, in plain English.
What you can do here
- Write a self-certification letter online in a few minutes and download it as a PDF.
- Download a blank form to print and fill in by hand.
- Read how the 7-day rule, weekends, fit notes and linked periods of sickness work.
Who runs this site
This is an independent website. We are not part of GOV.UK, HMRC, the NHS or any employer, and we cannot see or change anything about your sick pay or your employment record.
How we keep the information right
Every page is written from official sources such as GOV.UK, ACAS and the NHS. Our HR & Employment content team checks the pages against those sources and updates them when the rules change. Each page shows the date it was last updated, so you can see how fresh it is.
Sick pay rules change from time to time. If you spot something that looks out of date, please tell us and we will check it.
Your letters stay private
The letter tool runs in your browser. What you type is used to build your PDF on your own device and is not sent to us. You can read more on our privacy policy page.
Please remember
We share general information, not legal advice. For help with a specific problem at work, speak to your employer, your union, ACAS or Citizens Advice. See our disclaimer for the full wording.
